SONG Ignites the Kindred “Every day, I make a decision to stay and be queer in the rural south.” So says Paulina Hernandez, co-director of Southerners on New Ground (SONG), the only LGBTQ multi-issue, multi-racial organization working to dismantle systemic oppression throughout the Southeast. Paulina echoes the sentiments of many of SONG’s members. Citing the organization as source of inspiration and strength, they are determined to stand their ground and stay in the homes they love. [read more and watch video] Astraea Honors Lesbian Artists After a rigorous selection process, reviewing work in mediums from nail polish to welded steel, Astraea named Jess Dunn, Elaine Gan and amey gee the awardees of the 2008 Astraea Visual Arts Fund. The Fund was founded in 2002 to promote the work of contemporary lesbian visual artists who show artistic merit and share Astraea's commitment to LGBTI visibility and social justice.
