After a competitivie search, Astraea is pleased to welcome Wendi Muse as Executive Assistant.  An innovative and organized thinker and writer, Wendi brings to Astraea a wide range of skills.  Her experience spans from her past work at an international corporate law firm to her current status as a Special Correspondent for Racialicious, a blog about the intersection of race and pop culture.

“Wendi stood out from a pool of highly qualified candidates,” said Katherine Acey, Executive Director, “Now she is learning the ropes with alacrity, and I already appreciate her insights and uncanny ability to keep multiple balls in the air. And I’m very pleased that Miles Goff, Executive Assistant for three years, is bringing so much to the Program Team in his new role as Program Associate.”

Wendi said, “Astraea’s focus on empowering people who are experiencing multiple layers of oppression—those whose daily lives put them in the margins of the margins—is incredibly inspiring.   I am thrilled to be working so closely with Katherine and respect her contributions to the LGBTI, people of color and women’s communities. I really believe that being oneself is made more of a possibility through the daily work of leaders like Katherine and organizations like Astraea.”

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Wendi is a graduate of New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study where she created a concentration in “Legal and Cultural Studies of Oppressed and Marginalized Peoples.” She also served as the Managing Editor of The Coup Magazine, an independent ‘zine with a focus on black women.  During a stint in Brazil, she conducted research and taught English as a Second Language. Wendi is fluent in Portuguese and also enjoys practicing yoga, dancing and reading.
